Re: Retesting Information and Procedures

Provided below is information for those candidates who have failed one or two attempts to complete the New Mexico EMT licensing examination and need to schedule a retest. Also provided is information for those candidates who have failed the examination three or more times. You have two (2) years from the date on your EMT course completion certificate to complete your state licensing examination and obtain your NM state EMT license. Failure to complete your state examination within two (2) years will require you to take the entire EMT course over before you can re-apply for state licensure.

FIRST OR SECOND FAILURES (ALL EMT LEVELS):  If this was your first or second failure of the New Mexico licensing examination; you must re-apply for another examination site. Refer to the Examination Test Site Schedule printed on the back of this letter or posted on our web site www.nmems.org. Detach your test results from the bottom of your failure notification letter and attach it along with your retest fee (make check or money order (Do not send cash) out to the “EMS Bureau” and mail to:

THIRD EXAMINATION FAILURE (ALL EMT LEVELS):  If this was your third examination failure of either the written exam, practical exam, or both, you are required to complete a refresher course from an approved NM EMS training program, prior to being given a fourth and final opportunity to test. Once you complete your refresher, detach your test results from the bottom of your failure notification letter and attach it along with a copy of your refresher completion certificate and your retest fee (make check or money order payable to the “EMS Bureau”, do not send cash) and mail it to the address above. You will be scheduled for a final attempt to successfully complete the examination.

FOURTH EXAMINATION FAILURE (ALL EMT LEVELS):  If this was your fourth examination attempt, YOU MUST RETAKE THE ENTIRE EMT COURSE prior to submitting a new application and fee for licensure. You must resubmit your entire application and fee to be eligible for the state examination for EMS licensure. You will be mailed your confirmation letter once all documentation is received.

EMT-Basic $30.00

EMT-Intermediate $35.00
