F1:   “THE UNKNOWN DIABETIC”                                                                         1.5 Medical Emergencies

This lecture will inform EMS providers about a rare condition called Diabetes Insipidus. Most EMS personnel can relate to the very well known Diabetes Mellitus. This presentation will briefly refresh EMS providers about Diabetes Mellitus but will also challenge minds concerning this rare condition in both pediatric and adult patients, Diabetes Insipidus.

 

F2:    “INHALATIONAL INJURY” 1.5 Airway & Ventilation

In this lecture Dr. Marinaro will discuss inhalational injury including a presentation of patients, management and pitfalls of inhalation injury.

 

F3:  “PEDIATRIC TRAUMA AND AIRWAY REVIEW” 1.5 Special Considerations

For those much needed Pediatric CE’s!! This short presentation will be a quick review of trauma in pediatrics and airway management. We will touch on what PHTLS, ACLS and PEPP have to say about trauma, airway and anything else you would like to talk about.

 

F4:  “TISSUE DONATION, HIPAA AND EMS—ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS” 1.5 Preparatory

This presentation will inform you of the overall donation process; how HIPAA affects organ & tissue recovery organizations and EMS providers when being asked for run sheet documentation post donation. Questions & Answers for all organ, tissue and cornea donation issues.

 

F5:  “WHAT IS PENUMBRA?  STROKE CARE 2008” 1.5 Medical Emergencies

You have just encountered a possible stroke patient.  You ask yourself, what should I do first?  How do I know it is a stroke?  Is it too late to reverse the damage?  How do I do the right things in the right order?  This workshop will answer these critical questions.  We will provide practical advice on the care of stroke patients in an acute setting.  We will discuss designated stroke centers, and the latest technology in diagnosing and treating stroke patients.

 

F6:  “CONFOUNDING CASES IN KIDS” 1.5 Special Considerations/Pediatrics

This presentation will focus on pediatric patients who present with signs and symptoms that are confusing. Through case presentations, participants will learn some new tricks of assessment and review some old ones. Come join Linda for this fast paced, interactive case review session.

 

F7:  “THE POWER OF YOUR VOICE 1.5 Preparatory

To be an effective advocate, it is imperative to learn the process of bill creation, crafting, and development. This session will discuss how a bill makes its way through the legislature and becomes a law, and how it can fail. Additionally, effective means of supporting a bill during the process will also be discussed.

 

F8:   “BUILDING THE PERFECT TEAM (OR THE WORLD AS DISNEY INTENDED)” 1.5 Preparatory

In this presentation Mike will get a little help from the folks at Disney to take a look at your team and the skills it takes to provide the leadership they need. Topics will include communication skills, conflict resolution, team work, and some good old fashioned fun! This presentation is a must see for supervisors and team leaders and team members are certain to get something out of it too.

“EMS RESPONSE TO THE I-35 W BRIDGE  COLLAPSE”                                                                         1.5 Operations

Tom Ward, EMT-P, BA, EMS Supervisor (Retired), Hennepin County EMS, Minneapolis, MN

The successful emergency response to the collapse of the I-35W Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis on August 1, 2007 resulted from widespread participation of community volunteers and the coordinated efforts of regional first response agencies. This presentation uses pictures and sound clips to re-create the incident from the moments immediately after the collapse and the initial emergency response through the rescue phase and into the prolonged recovery period. There has been widespread praise to the overall EMS response but, as in any large incident
